"C-60 commandos of the Maharashtra Police kill 37 Maoists in 72 hours – Gadchiroli"
Security forces recovered 15 more bodies of the Maoists from Indravati river in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Tuesday, taking the total number of the Maoists killed in the district to 37 in the last three days.
The bodies were recovered from the river near the spot of the April 22 encounter in Kasansur area of Gadchiroli in which the security forces had gunned down 16 rebels.
The killing of 37 Maoists within a span of 72 hours has effectively wiped out the Maoist organization in south Gadchiroli.
On Sunday, C-60 commandos of the Maharashtra police – flanked by a CRPF battalion – laid a trap in the forests of Kasansur. They were acting on specific intel. Maoists were going to enter Gadchiroli in an area bordering Chhattisgarh. The operation began at around 11 am, and went on for four hours. Sixteen Maoists – nine men and seven women – were killed, and several others were injured. Sinu and Sainath were among the dead.
In another intelligence-based operation in the Kapewancha area (Rajaram Khandla post), six more Maoists were killed. Four of them were women.
The killing of 31 Maoists in a single operation is the biggest success of the security forces in the country’s four-decade-long history of the Left Wing Extremism.
