When the high level meeting was happening in the aftermath of February 26th, it was all over the TV channels, the body language of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan, was nonchalant, casual, not even a remote look of anguish, over the deaths of the JeM, trainees and the trainers. Probably he just clean forgot the fact that, he came to power with the help of the same jihadi groups behind the Pulwama attack, with the Jaish-e-Mohammed supporting his campaign in Punjab. His swirling movement side wards, seated in the chair while the video was shot, goes to show, that probably the seriousness had not sunk in and they were into total denial about the Balakot bombings by the Indian Air Force.

There are two ways of handling this situation, which our Prime Minister has handled very well. One being the Diplomatic talks failing which, we can always resort to further attempts in air strikes or the weaponry talks. The February 26th episode is a classic example of the diplomatic talks failing with the Pakistanis, pre and post Pulwama attacks. Our Prime Minister saw the rage it created in the country and decided to take the plunge, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, goes without saying. When diplomacy does not work, only revengeful actions fetch better results. It is also true that we never attempted or made any attacks on Pakistan on our own volition, but for only retaliations now.

Now the impact of this is already felt, US Secretary of State Mr. Mike Pompeo, has called for India and Pakistan to “exercise restraint, among soaring tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries, while urging Islamabad to take action against militants. He also went on to report, “the priority of de-escalating current tensions by avoiding military action and the urgency of Pakistan taking meaningful action against terrorist groups”.

More is the effect, when the United Nations has been approached by, US, Britain and France proposed on Wednesday that the head of the Pakistan-based Military group JeM, Masood Azhar to be blacklisted. However, this move is likely to be opposed by China, which previously prevented the Security Council’s Islamic State and al qaeda sanctions committee from sanctioning him in 2016 and 2017. The US, Britain and France have asked the 15-member Security Council sanctions committee to subject Azhar to an arms embargo, global travel ban and asset freeze. The committee operates by consensus and members have until March 13th to raise objections if any, as per the proposal forwarded.

When the Council committee previously considered blacklisting Azhar in 2017, the Chinese Foreign Secretary said, “there were clear rules for listing a person or group as a terrorist, that china has always believed the relevant U.N. Committee should operate on the principles of objectivity”. The Security Council condemned Feb 14th attack in a statement last week, which was agreed after several days of negotiation. It is even said that China opposed to a reference of JeM, however agreed statement did eventually note that JeM had claimed responsibility for the attack. The United Nations sent messages both publicly and privately to both sides, to urgently take steps to lower tensions through meaningful mutual engagement and meet the responsibilities to maintain peace and security in the region, as told by Dujarric.

With the shooting of one Pakistani aircraft, in the aftermath of Balakot, ever since Pulwama, all political parties in India national as well as regional have come together in the fight against terror-friendly neighbour and even the citizens were heard shouting slogans hailing the sacrifice of the forces. Moreover, India revoked the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status unilaterally accorded to Pakistan over 20 years ago. The Government of India also resolved to isolate Pakistan on the global stage. US, Australia, France and other countries issued statements condemning Pakistan for breeding terrorists on their soil and asserted that the world’s patience on terrorist safe havens is running thin.

As tensions between the two nations continues to mount, the fact that our Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, whose aircraft was shot down during a confrontation with the Pakistani Air Force, after his eventual parachute jump in the alien land, where he had been captured and held in captivity since yesterday, will be released tomorrow. This development came a day after Pakistan claimed to have arrested an Indian Air Force pilot after shooting down his fighter jet. The way the whole process was done itself is much against the Geneva Convention. What Pakistan Government should have done is notified the Indian Government about the person whom they have arrested, or in their custody. Instead they made a video of abhinandan, with blood smeared face, blind-folded, his talks were taped and sent, in regular intervals. More over the bravado of abhinandan has to be appreciated whochose to answer only few questions and not all.

When the peace talks were negotiated by Imran Khan, with Narendra Modi ji, holding abhinandan in captivity, the strong message that was conveyed to him and his army coterie, unless and until they release our officer, no further negotiations, diplomatically or otherwise will be taken forward. This literally fixed the Pakistan Government and they had to heed to our demand with the support of all the countries who are strongly, vehemently protesting Pakistan’s terrorism breeding culture and the making of terrorists in their soil. The whole world has come to know that Pakistan does not understand and listen to the language of diplomacy, India understanding this well, has ensured that global community is coming to recognize it too.

We have shown to the world that, there is no going back to the old attitudes, that have prevailed since 1947. No more tolerance for terror, no more protection for terrorists. What we need now is full integration of Kashmir into India. This is the only solution and long term befitting reply to Pakistan’s continual terrorist attacks on India. The ironical fact is that, this outrage, outpouring of emotions after the pulwama, was never seen in comparison, when the entire Kashmir pandit population was driven out by militants in 1990 along with massive loss of life and property – a veritable genocide of a religious community. It is very palpable that, this emotion continues after the Balakot retaliatory strikes and is likely to be sustained until Pakistan stops its aggression. It is also sad that the Kashmir issue has remained a problematic issue even after 70 years, have failed to bring peace, despite extensive dialogues, compromises, extension of special benefits for Kashmir.

Why this sudden change of attitude? It all began with the greater sense of identity and nationalism that we find today in the MODI ERA, in which it is no longer wrong to be patriotic and proud of India, as a nation and a great civilization. It is a reflection of the new aspirational ethos for which being Indian or even being Hindu is no longer something to make excuses about!!

How do we go about this NOW? Removing security from and arresting separatists, stringent economic sanctions against Pakistan, diverting river waters from flowing into Pakistan are the important initial steps. All Indians should be allowed to move, conduct business and own property in Kashmir, just as all Kashmiris are allowed to do so all over India, where they do possess many properties, businesses. The special status and autonomy afforded to Kashmir should be revoked with immediate effect and the concerns of Jammu and Ladakh be given their place, not just those of the valley. Internally we need to do a lot of cleansing work first by repealing, revoking, redundancy of ARTICLE 370 and the special status too.

Article 370 of the Indian constitution is an article that gives autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The article is drafted in Part XXI of the Constitution: Temporary, Transitional and Special Provisions. The Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, after its establishment, was empowered to recommend the articles of the Indian constitution that should be applied to the state or to abrogate the Article 370 altogether. The Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir created the state's constitution and dissolved itself without abrogating the Article 370, thereby making Jammu and Kashmir an autonomous region of the Republic of India. The Supreme Court Of India declared that the article had acquired a permanent status in the Indian Constitution through years of its existence, making it impossible to abrogate it.

The roots of terrorism in Pakistan must be addressed, not simply the branches that extend into Kashmir. While it is necessary to engage the international community with diplomatic sanctions on Pakistan, India must also accordingly to its own interests extend to military responses. No weak country is honoured in the face of terrorism. We should also see how United States, China, Russia firmly deal with terrorism. The stronger Indian response is better for Kashmiris to whom Pakistan will never bring peace to. Full integration with India will result in greater prosperity for Kashmir and restore cultural harmony.

India has just started with its paying back attitude, when we come full-on against terrorism, towards which we have no intention of showing any toleration whatsoever, what will happen to your country Pakistan? Mr. Imran Khan? Your country is being sponsored by Muslim organisations, all over the world, funding terrorism, the only thing that is grown in abundance is the opium, what else can we expect from this country which totally lacks in development economy wise, industrial growth or otherwise. Imagine your plight when the whole world stops supporting you or your ideology that your country stands for, “TERRORISM”.
