HURRAY! HURRAY! ITS HOLI-HOLIDAY
Reminded of this song of BONEY M, recorded in the year 1979. Government Offices and educational institutions to remain shut for six days in Tamil Nadu for Pongal Holidays. Following representations from various sections, the Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday, that is 8th January, 2019, announced a public holiday on January 14th thus extending the Pongal public holidays for six days.
“All government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on that day, 14th January, 2019 and instead will function on February 9th, said an order issued by the Public Department. The State Government had received requests from several associations and the public to extend the holidays to celebrate harvest festival in their native places, the order said”. The State Government already notified holidays on January 15th, Pongal, 16th Thiruvalluvar Day, 17th Uzhavar Thirunal. In all, Government offices and educational institutions will not function from January 12th, Saturday.
“As the holiday was not declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act 1991, all District Collectors have been asked to make arrangements to work with certain number of staffs in Treasury and Sub-Treasury Offices in the Districts”, the order said.
It’s a nice move to consider, give and combine leave from Monday onwards for those who go to their native places to celebrate the festival of harvest. Though they may have to work in February as compensatory. For those of whom, who have been planning a real week full getaway, it’s the time to go outstation and enjoy the HOLI-HOLIDAY.
