MORE FEATHERS IN HIS CAP!!
The goodness that one does to the society, especially to the marginalised downtrodden, consistently, amazes one and all. District Collector of Thiruvannamalai, Sri. K.S. KANDASWAMY, has struck again, his helping wand, for the betterment of people in his district again. Last week, on Friday there were instances which came to the limelight, to highlight his ever growing, “SERVING THE POOR AND NEEDY”, persona. He continues to hold his district people in awe and surprise. He reaches to them at the grass root level, makes himself one among them with no airs, understands their problems and gives them the solution whatever is, within his control.
In the first instance, Varalakshmi, a contract Garbage cleaning staff from Thiruvannamalai Corporation, whose daughter Sathya wanted to study nursing. Owing to economic constraints the girl couldn’t pursue her dream further. In the meantime, Sri. K.S. KANDASWAMY, Collector, came to know about this girl and her situation from Sri. A. Thiruvel and Sri. Neelakantan, who are running Thiruvel Tuition Centre. Immediately he made special arrangements for the girl’s admission, at Arunai Nursing College and arranged a scholarship with initial financial assistance of Rs. 10,000/-. On Friday last week, he met Varalakshmi at her working place, which was an area where she normally collects garbage and cleans the surrounding place. He surprised her by his visit and gave the admission letter and a cheque for the scholarship for her daughter Sathya, who was also present at the venue. Immediately Varalakshmi prostrated in front of him even before he could stop her, much to his surprise, he was also taken aback. Later, while they were all having tea at a local road-side tea stall with everyone, when a small girl ran up to him having a book in her hand asking for his autograph, he happily conceded to the girl’s request.
In the second instance, he won the hearts and praises of the public in Udayaarkuppam, next to Thandarampattu, where he built the “PASUMAI VEEDU-GREEN HOUSE” under the Government’s free home project, for a poor girl, Kamakshi. Born to parents, Pichaikaran aged about 70, valli aged about 65 as the last of 5 five children, 4 daughters and 1 son. Kamakshi in July 2016, attended the Public Redressal Forum, applied for her mother’s physically challenged pension, from the Government. Collector Sri. K.S. Kandaswamy, asked her whether/what she is studying? She told him that in 10th standard her marks were 467/500 and in +2 she had scored 1063/1200, she completed B.Sc. maths, first year. She went on to say further, that her dream is to pursue B.ED and eventually become a teacher in future.
Immediately he arranged for Kamakshi to apply online for B.ED, then gave a grant letter for her mother’s physically challenged pension, but later on, in counselling for B.ED, she wasn’t successful in her attempt. After this, with the Collector’s help and attempt, she was given a seat at Vellore Arts and Science College, for B.ED, towards which he gave her the admission letter and arrangements made for her stay at Vellore, at the Government’s women hostel. In this situation, on 26.7.2018, he had to go to Thandarampattu, to inspect and update all the Government Developmental projects, he went to Kamakshi’ s house at Udayaarkuppam. He saw they were living in a hut with no basic facilities. He immediately summoned P.T.O. Sri. Mahadevan to build a house under PASUMAI VEEDU-GREEN HOUSE PROJECT, towards this he effected an order.
After this, the new house was built, Collector Sri. K.S. Kandaswamy, participated and cut the ribbon on housewarming occasion, last Friday and gave the key of the house to Kamakshi and he had lunch with them. Later he advised Kamakshi to train and finish the B.ED course in flying colours, join a Government school as a teacher, help and serve poor families in the future. Immediately Kamakshi promised him that, since their family considers him to be god personified and sees him as a father figure, she would definitely follow his advice in the future.
The highlight of the event was he arranged for Kamakshi” s education, arranged for the physically challenged pension amount for her parents, he arranged for education fund Rs.25000/- which he gave in person on last Friday, people of that village more than 500, who had gathered there to see the Collector, praised him and took photographs with him.
When in conversation, asked him how he faces adverse situations, this is what he had to say, “one should not lose PATIENCE at any given untoward situations, must keep COOL and never allow oneself to be provoked”.
He is true follower, living example, with this motto of, “SERVICE TO MANKIND IS SERVICE TO GOD”. MAY YOUR TRAVEL TO HELP, SERVE, THE POOR, DOWNTRODDEN, NEEDY CONTINUE.
